I am running the following version on my alpha 800:
Red Hat Linux release 7.1 (Seawolf)
Kernel 2.4.3-12 on an alpha
It is my understanding that Redhat no longer supports version 6.2 via the RedHat network (or Alpha at all for that matter) and above.
It was also brought to my attention I need ot update my kernel.
Here is what I would like to know:
1. I would like to move my system from Red Hat to something else that I can support.
2. What are the steps to move over and rebuild my kernel....
3. I did find linux-2.4.23 and have untarred it but want to be sure I rebuild the kernel properly.
Here is some information that is driving this effort. If you can help, please let me know.
thanx, joe b
"The vulnerability is in all releases of the kernel from Version 2.4.0 through 2.5.69, but has been fixed in Releases 2.4.23-pre7 and 2.6.0-test6"
RedHat Inc. and the Debian Project, <<http://www.debian.org/>> both have released advisories warning customers of the issue and providing information on fixes. A slew of products from other vendors, including, MandrakeSoft S.A., SuSE Linux AG and Caldera International Inc., also are vulnerable.
According to Symantec's analysis, the exploit that the attacker used to compromise the Debian servers is not publicly available, but is apparently circulating in the cracker underground.
