See www.alphalinux.org for how to build your kernel. Regarding the
configuration you'll probably have to look inside the kernel-rpm for
the .config file. Also there are still some patches for alpha not yet
in the mainline kernel, so you might consider using the HP-tree as
your baseline.

And yes, there have been several problems with kernels since Redhat
stopped support for 6.2 in March, so an upgrade is highly recommended
(not only because of the brk() issue).
