Sounds like some differences in a terminology. Three disk sectors
is 3 times 512, i.e 1536 bytes of space.  If you could squeeze there
something of an order of 80K of a bootloader binaries that would be 
a nice trick (not mentioning coaching your firmware to read that back
and execute too).
