I don't think so.
I've seen it too, but only after a single XP1000 install (I've done
more than 1).
I've been thinking it might have to do with what was installed; most of
mine have been "Everything" installs, but IIRC the XP1000 install that
fails was NOT a full one.
I tried doing "rescue" and rebuilding the INITRD, but I simply
couldn't figure out why it wouldn't load the correct (and present)
driver to establish the root device.
I don't currently have anything to suggest as a work-around besides my
experiences with "Everything" installs. Be aware that that entails
something like 6.5GB of space, though you CAN go about removing stuff
once you're up and running... ;-}
