For wordprocessing, I use Words from Applix. $65 for an academic
license. see http://www.applix.com
It also contains a neato spreadsheet. Also some presentation program a
la Corel Presentations or MS PowerPoint.
Finally, there is a mail program which I hate.
OK, so Applix is a commercial software, but the Offix/Drag-n-drop folks
are working on a GPL offering.
