This might not be true. libc.so.4 is the a.out dynamic library, while
libc.so.5 is the ELF dynamic library. You certainly have some version of the
a.out library on your CD, but you might have decided, when installing, not
to include a.out support. In any case, you can find it in the sunsite
archive, either on the net by ftp at sunsite.unc.edu:/pub/linux or on one of
your CDs, under the libs directory. Take the highest version number you find
that starts with a 4. I believe the latest is libc.so.4.7.6 or something
like that.
