Re: LDP

I don't think we need a special appeal to publishers.
Check out http://sunsite.unc.edu/mdw/linux.html. I know
that there are at least the Netwrok Administrator's Guide
and the Linux Programmer's Guide, maybe others. This is definitely faq-fodder.
Go to your favorite search engine and type Linux Documentation Project.

I can probably get O'Reilly to release an HTML version of the Network
Administrator's Guide, since it is also published as an O'Reilly book
(the only LDP volume that met O'Reilly's quality standards when they
decided to start publishing books on Linux).

If you contact Lenny Muellner (len ora com) he can probably provide
you with a plain text version of O'Reilly's UNIX System Administration
book, but it's not Linux-specific, nor currently offered in HTML form.
However, it's a thorough book, used by many professional UNIX admins.

All the LDP books should be filterable to SGML form using the linuxdoc
tools (from LaTeX, if I recall?). From SGML form, you should be able
to get them into HTML by adapting a filter available from the Davenport
Group developed for converting books written to use the docbook DTD
into HTML. If I had *any* time these days, I'd adapt the filter for
you. Is there a blinuxer who would care to undertake to add this tool
to the linuxdoc utilities? I'll dig up the resources if need be, but
I'm terribly far behind in getting some other work out right now...
