Hi Georgina:  I recomend you join the speakup mailing list and ask you
questions there.  The person that created the slackware kernels with
speakup is on that list and is probably very willing to help you get
the details all worked out.

I am afraid I don't know the details of the slackware distribution
well enough to be much help.  There are quite a few folks on the
mailing list that are using slackware though.
