HI Mike.

I would recommend that you get Alien, and the alien-extra package.  I
don't have the url for the Alien web page, but you can find it by doing a
search on www.freshmeat.net.

Alien allows you to convert to/from tgz, rpm, slp, tar.gz and Debian
packages.  I find it very useful.
