The problem with realplayer on Linux is awful.
Here is what is going on best as I can tell:

(Note: all this is in the context of the G2 realplayer )

(even digging that out of their WWW site is a nightmare)

1) Now that they have released the G2player (supposedly
   still alpha/beta for Linux)
they have *no* pointers to older versions of the player.

2) Unlike previous versions of the player,
this new gismo needs a better display resolution --the
option to Xvfb should be something like 400x400x32 
--they need at least 16 or 32 bit depth.

3) G2 player happily core dumps if you give it a display it
   doesn't like.

4) Even if you manage to get the thing not to core dump, you
   are most probably out of luck when trying to run it with
   Xvfb --this is because it pops up a goofy dialog that it
   expects you to click on.
still to be determiend: if the thing actually stops popping
   up this dialog once one has registered.

All in all the state of realaudio is pretty sad --hopefully
someone out there in open source land is busy coding a
realplayer.
P.S. Please dont start a flame war about real networks and
their lack of good access citizenship here --no one from
real networks is listening to this list as far as I know.
