Excuse the cross-post, but I'm hoping to reach as many blind computer
users as possible.
Maybe you've heard about the SETI (Search for Extra Terrestrial
Intelligence) at home project. Basically (and in a very few words) what
this project is doing is asking private computer users to use a screen
saver that analyzes data received from a radio telescope in hopes of
locating extra terrestrial life. It costs you nothing since it uses a
screen saver that only runs when your computer isn't in use.
To get the SETI screen saver (it comes in versions for every possible
operating system from Windows to DOS and Linux to OS/2); or to learn more
about the SETI at home project; go to:
http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu
If you decide to use the screen saver to look for E.T., please join the
group that I've set up called Blind Computer Users. You can join by
clicking on the "Groups" button at the main SETI at home page. This way,
all statistics for the blind users participating in the search will be
gathered together.
Please feel free to post this message to other lists. This is a serious
scientific effort and it's something we can all help with. For more
details on just how the data is collected and studied, you can get the
following file from my private FTP site:
