http://www.ibm.com/sns link to products, then viavoice, then linux, then have not registered. You'll need to fill in a form and when your done, you'll find a 1.79mb tar file. When you download that tar file and extract, you'll find two rpms that were contained in it. Read readme.txt, install it, then run one of the sample programs provided. To speak the word hello, for example:
/usr/lib/ViaVoice/samples/cmdlinespeak/cmdlinespeak hello
note that the emacspeak server for viavoice has a few bugs but it is usable.
