dYes, Redhat still offers a "text" option for installation. One types
"text" at the RH boot disk's "boot" prompt.

There are already some attempts at what you're proposing on the Speakup
ftp site. Some of them work, in my experience, and others do not--at least
for me. The issue is that one needs to compile a kernel for each supported
synth, and this needs to be done for each flavor of the Redhat install,
standard, network, and pcmcia. Also, initrd would need to contain the
Speakup key maps.

It's a great idea, though. It would make a lovely CDR.
