I don't know for certain, but Michael Gorse's web page seems to indicate
that he's working on a console screen reader that works from a shell. You
might contact him on the screen reader he's working on; I *think* he's
GPL'ing it. Course, you might also check out Speakup, which of course works
as kernel patches, and it is definitely GPL. I don't have Michael's Email
address to hand, although I think it's mgorse wpi edu ... There's a link to
his Web page at Blinux home page, if I'm not too badly mistaken.
