problem in using vi editor

Hello, listers!
I am using text terminal to access the linux system.
I use terminator v5.0 mainly.
It is good, but I have difficulty in moving cursors in vi editor.
So, I edited the vt100's key definition as below:
up cursor: k
dn cursor: j
left cursor: h
right cursor: l
Then, I had no trouble in vi.
However, I couldn't use cursors in other programs because the cursor sends k,
j, h, l instead of the normal code.
 
I hope you will give me a good way to get around it.
