good summary.
yes it appears the only way to go if you want to use an authorized copy of jfw is to do a raw disk install rather than a virtual disk.
otherwise if you use a virtual disk your stuck with the 40 min demo because you can't move a key onto the virtual harddisk as the floppy won't read it correctly.
this is certainly on topic as you point out.
i myself have just finished testing vmware with win nt and win98 using jfw. i've finally got everything working correctly appart from a key problem to do with the ls120 drive in my laptop, and nothing to do with vmware.
with win98 installed on a raw disk and two hardware profiles setup one
for booting windows in real mode and the other for vmware the
authorized copy of jfw runns well under 98 after moving the key in
real mode. i presume the same is true for nt although i've not
managed to move a key yet due to my ls120 drive and nt not getting on
that well. the demo runs no problems under nt though.
i see vmware as a way of letting me access windows when i have to
without having to reboot my computer just to do some small thing and
then reboot back to linux because i prefer the speech output under
linux. vmware eliminates the need for reboots into windows.
