Instead of using another computer as a terminal or learning emacs why
don't use a program called Speakup? Speakup is a set of kernel patches
which means it can be compiled in to the kernel. As soon as your Linux
system boots the program starts reading everything on the screen and sends
it to your Speach synthesizer. You can find out more by going to the web
