Semi-OT: JFW and VMWare

Ok, I'm beginning to doubt that this is a VMWare problem, but I'm
guessing that if it is, that someone here has solved it.

I grabbed the new version of VMWare which was released a few days ago,
but the sound problems still persist. So, I installed JFW on my
currently-unused /dev/ttyS0; my only frustration is that I have to
switch com ports when I switch into windows. Anyhow, this allowed me
to launch JFW.

Now, though JFW works well on dialogue boxes and menus, it doesn't
work at all with wordpad or explorer. I'd like to try it with
netscape/mozilla, but I somehow doubt that I will have any better
results. Similarly, HJ's own script editor displayed similar symptoms
to the previously-mentioned apps.

Basically, any large open panes such as webpages or edit windows
refuse to speak individual characters or lines. Arrowing over them
merely speaks apostrophes and parenthesis, as well as other odd
graphics chars.

I noticed that when JFW was installed, it complained that my video
card was operating at greater than 256 colors, but it seems that
VMWare only emulates a standard VGA at 640x480x16. I'd be surprised if
JFW had trouble with such a simple resolution, but maybe it
does. *shrug* Has anyone successfully used JFW 3.5, or any version of
JFW for that matter, with VMWare 2.0 (or even an earlier version?) Are
there any configuration options that I can try, on either end? I tried
upgrading win98's video drivers to the vanilla SVGA drivers, but win98
puked and I had to reset them to vanilla VGA.

Thanks.
