I think one could with netzero, but it's quite hard to find the program to generate the encrypted password. They use a weird protocol where the encrypted password is sent when their password prompt comes up. I heard of this on some spam message awhile that said something about using netzero without using the program, but I forgot what the url was. The ads would never work in linux anyway, and they don't know you're not looking at them.
