kernel problem

Ok, I've got the thing installed now all I have to do is get the kernel updated.  As I have no screen reader yet I need step by step instructions if possible.  I will get someone to read the screen tomorrow to determine the version that I have installed.  as I've installed Red Hat version 7 I'm sure I'm going to have difficulties in finding the right kernel update.  again, downloading version 7.3 of Red Hat is not an option.  It would take too long with my internet connection.

One more question.  How can I decompress tar files?  I have the emacs speak program but am not certain how to go about decompressing the file.  I'll probably find out how once I've read threw a few man pages but to do that I need a screen reader.

Thanks again for all your help.  I'm nearly there.
Oh, by the way, the reason that I was having problems was I was under the impression that I needed three partitions when in actual fact two were only needed.
