securety

Hi,

On windows I needed to use securety software like a firewall and anty 
virus software...
Do I need any of these on linux?
I am told I should get a firewall...
Is this true?
If so does anyone know of a good firewall?
I am using just the cli and I don't have x or any gui.
I am using speakup and brltty.
Or don't I need this.
If I need it could someone please give me a link or something and give me 
some basic setup instructions?
Also I am on debian eche. But I am thinking about going with leny.
