Not my area of interest so I can't answer the question about
accessibility. But there are eight live CD distributions directly
aimed at media production. They are linked from this page,
<http://www.livecdlist.com/?pick=All&showonly=media%20production>.
They should give you a fairly easy means of checking out what is
available for editing sound files.
