Might be worth seeing if xfs is ever getting to its discard code?  There is a tracepoint...

# echo 1 > /sys/kernel/debug/tracing/tracing_enabled
# echo 1 > /sys/kernel/debug/tracing/events/xfs/xfs_discard_extent/enable
