The change I'd like is to not put it under /usr at all at all. Doesn't belong 
there, /usr should be mountable ro.

Besides, that's owned by root, and most agree root should not be building 
software. Configure rpm to put the tree somewhere in te user's space.

That aside, SOURCES shouldn't be a long-term repository for anything. When 
software's packaged, clean SOURCES. the proper place for WIP is somewhere 
else.
