Lexmark Z52

I have a friend that has 7.2 installed and needs to get his printer
working. It's the Z52 model from Lexmarka nd is running as USB. Here's
what we've tried.

1. Installed 7.2 and tried configuring the printer. Nada. I know the=is
was broken when I had 7.2 installed (I went back to 7.1 myself for other
reasons). The printconf tool didn't even see /dev/lp/lp0 or whatever it
was called (I'm at home now and can't verify these things).

2. Up2dated everything. Ran printconf and it saw the port, identified
the printer, failed to print anything once configured.

3. Downloaded and installed the lexmark driver (it always failed at the
end and told me to uninstall it, but it gave the wrong rpm release - it
said 1.0-1 and I was installing 1.0-4). When trying to get this to work
on 7.1 it needed a file that was called vdk-something-or-other. Tried
installing that same file before the lexmark driver, and the lexmark
driver still failed at the end with the same (misguided) error.

4. Tried forcing the install of the lexmark driver and always had the
same result: error at end, failure at printing.

5. Downloaded and installed all of the old printing-related stuff for
7.1. It would do the same thing as those with 7.2.

In all cases, the file would be spooled but never sent to the printer.
It worked fine under 7.1 but he had some stability problems with that
release.

I'm guessing the lexmark driver error was due to a change in libraries
(the error was too non-descript to be really useful). The vdk-whatever
didn't seem to be needed because the lexmark rpm already had the same
files in it. The strange part is, it absolutely refused to install on
7.1 until the vdk rpm was installed even though the lexmark rpm
contained the same files (plus more)! But, if I installed them both,
neither complained about the other.

Any ideas? He's not subscribed to the list and I'm trying to do this as
a go-between. I'd suggest he subscribe but he's really busy trying to
get some rebuilding done on his house before it gets too awfully cold.

Any help will be most appreciated as that seems to be the only thing he
needs to have stability and all working.
