Strange XF86 behavior

Subject: Strange XF86 behavior

 just upgraded a 7.1 system to a 7.2 system using XFree86 version 4.; but when I run
 startx it uses /root/XF86Config as its configuration file.

 What have I done wrong? How can it be fixed?
