loading aic7xxx module at early install stage freezes PC

Hi,

I have a dual-P3/750Mhz machine w/Intel L440GX+ server MoBo w/integrated
Adaptec AIC-7896N SCSI adapter. The machine is happily running RH6.2,
equipped with a system IDE "hda" disk and data SCSI "sda" disk.

Now as I wanted to upgrade it to 7.2, I backuped the data over the
network, inserted Net Boot floppy (I have all 7.2 stuff on a PC in LAN),
rebooted. The install goes all the way to the screen when I enter NFS
server for the install. On clicking Next, it shows a window 

"Installing aic7xxx module"

and the machine freezes, only Reset helps.

RH 6.2 uses also aic7xxx module w/o any problems.

Any hint how to deal with this strange problem?
