Not sure this is correct. The root for grub is still hd1,0 That is where the
grub config file is located. See the note above.

Ok assuming that /boot is /dev/hdb1 did you run "grub-install /dev/hdb1"
if you want grub on the partition or "grub-install /dev/hdb" if you want it
on the mbr from rescue mode? FWIW some nachines have a problem booting from the
2nd disk due to BIOs limitations but I would think yours is new enough to not
exhibit this problem. OTOH I could be wrong.
