Happy New Years everyone! Quick hardware question:
I've recently purchased a Promise Ultra100TX2 PCI card for my computer
to add 4 additional hard drives to it so I can RAID5 them for file
serving and that good stuff. I checked around a bit and it seems there
are issues with the Promise cards if there are multiple cards in the
system, but most articles pointed that one card worked fine. After
installing, the load locks up at while detecting the other two IDE
channels. I've tried with RH 7.2 and even upgraded to the newest kernel
and checking YES to compiling the Promise card module into the build and
it's still giving me fits.
I've tried disabling the onboard IDE to make the Promise run at ide0 and
ide1; however, that didn't fix the problem.
Is there any workarounds? I've been migrating more of my clients to
Linux and these Promise cards are very common. I know enough, right
now, to be dangerous, but the kernel modifications and rebuilding is
still new to me. Any advice or references would be great!
Thanks!
