I found that a drive disabled in the bios tends to make it invisible
during the booting process, but if I boot from a different drive
Linux can then use all the drives including ones disabled in the bios.
On the other hand, disabling the entire IDE controler in the bios
seems to make its drives invisible during the booting process and
afterwards too.
Your mileage may vary depending on your bios version and your
hardware. My motherboard is an Asus A7V.
