Not at all.
The rawhide kernel is compiled with 2.96, and chances are it will stay
that way for quite some time.

Sure. For example, you can install all stuff from rawhide, in which case
"gcc" or "g++" will be gcc 3.1-CVS, and "gcc296" or "g++296" will be 2.96.
