Hi, I'm a bit of a newbie to Linux but I've had a
fair amount of luck with it so far, building several small machines. However I'm
trying to build a new server to run Nagios software. The server is a compaq
Proliant 2500 series.
When installing 7.2, it said that there was not
enough memory to run the install program and therefore 'game over'. I then
installed 6.2 just, even then it had to use the swap file immediately as it
could not recognise the amount of memory available.
The problem is that Redhat does not recognise the
amount of memory that the server has. Currently it has 256M of memory which has
all been replaced several times, thinking that it could be duff memory, but
still no joy. On initial boot up, the memory is tested as usual and it is all
there, (this was running NT server and was fully functional)
According to the output of meminfo, Linux thinks
there is just 16 Meg, does anyone have any idea as to what the problem could
be?
Regards
Mark
