Hi all,
I have a recent hack on may machine through rpc.statd the log
contains a new one for me.
rpc.statd[632]: gethostbyname error for
^X÷ÿ¿^X÷ÿ¿^Y÷ÿ¿^Y÷ÿ¿^Z÷ÿ¿^Z÷ÿ¿^[÷ÿ¿^[÷ÿ¿%8x%8x%8x%8x%8x%8x%8x%8x%8x%236x%n%137x%n%10x%n%192x%n\220
\220\220\220\220\220\220\220\220\220\
The hacker has shutdown the NIC card.
I have gone through
http://www.cert.org/advisories/CA-2000-17.html
which shows there is a vulnerablity in the version and to
upgrade
But that is of year 2000 suggest me how to protect my machine from
rpc.statd affect.
-regards,
Praveen
