mii-tool, old RH

I have successfully used mii-tool in RH 7.1,7.2,&7.3 to modify the speed &
duplex setting of about half of my nodes (65).

The old nodes have RH 6.1, 62, & 7.0.  I have read some archived email and
I believe that ifconfig will not modify speed & duplex setting and I need
to download the appropriate net-tools?

Can someone please confirm this or re-direct me?  I am just back from
vacation.
