Brian,
I have the same problem. I have tried some of the other solutions with
no luck. Here is what happens:
I have 2 basically identical systems. One of the systems loads the net
...7smpx kernel just fine. The other stops loading at the following:
...
Starting kswapd
VFS: Diskqiotas version dquot-6.5.0 initialized
pty: 2048 Unix98 ptys configured
and thats it. It just hangs here.
As I said, hardware configuration is basically the same:
RH 7.2
Intel L440GX+ motherboard
2ea SCSI HD's
Differences are:
System that hangs:
1 processor
Has an IDE drive in addition to SCSI drives
System that boots A-OK:
2 processors
No IDE drive
On both of these systems I have to boot the smp kernel because of a
problem with the L440GX+ motherboard and it's onboad Adaptec controller.
I boot off of the previous kernel. In the past for kernel updates all I
have had to do is download the kernel via up2date and reboot. No other
special stuff.
I'm at a loss.

Subject: system crash with 2.4.18-17.7 kernel rpm
Hi all,
I have just updated my system via the RHND and as part of the update
the kernel was taken from 2.4.9-34smp to 2.4.18-17.7smpx. When the
system boots up it crashes after these few lines.
