Drowning in information

The setup:
Two machines connecting to the internet via a Linksys ethernet router --
One machine is running W-2000 pro, the other RH7.2. The 2000 machine has a
Lexmark printer/scanner/fax hooked up to it & my desire is to be able to
access this device from the Linux box.
So far all of the printed material I've seen (there has been a tremendous
amount) is directing me to set the Linux box up as server and let the 2000
box go through the server to get to the printer. Due to space considerations
and physical limitations I need to maintain the current configuration.
The Question:
How can I set these machines up (on a peer-to-peer network?) so that the
Linux box is able to use the printer? Directions to a resourse are fine if
the process is cumbersome.
Thank you,
Dan Wilterding
