Woops... typo in that email. I apologize.
The command to try is simply:
du -H --max-depth=1
It will scan through all sub directories in /home and output the size of
each in "human" format (Megabytes, gigabytes) and only display the top level
directory. Example on one of my systems:
[jim staff /home]# du -H --max-depth=1
17k ./lost+found
2.3G ./jim
29k ./aspseek
62k ./spamd
4.1M ./bumslut
1.4M ./elwood
2.3G .
