I have RedHat 7.3 and can play mp3's in xmms, but not CDs. The gnome control center's set up to automatically play cds in gtcd with the command
#gtcd --play --device %d
and it plays with no problem (with gtcd), though I'd prefer using xmms - for the simple reason that I like the look of it.
When I open xmms and try to load the /mnt/cdrom1 folder, there's nothing listed in the directory. I tried the /mnt/cdrom folder, but still there's nothing. I also tried the /dev directory, but no luck. I opened a terminal and cd'd to the directory, but nothing's listed - even though there's an audio cd in the drive. I typed
#xmms --play --device %d
and all sorts of plays around that, but no joy.
I opened xmms' preferences box and under the Audio I/O Plugins tab, in the Input plugins the first line is:
CD Audio Player 1.2.7 [libcdaudio.so]
I found this libcdaudio.so file and opened it with pico. It was mostly unreadable funny characters, but near the end it was written:
"generate a test key. As such, Xmms will
not be able to contact a CD Index server"
Would this lack of a test key be the answer to not getting the track listings? Or am I just making this loads more diffacult than it should be?
