from personal experience, i haven't had many problems with my sony laptop
(pcg-gr370) running rh 7.2 and xp...after just about a year. i don't have
plans to get or need another one anytime soon (knock on wood)
though i don't do much admin work, i do run intensive crystallography
software without much problem. mines a little heavy but i enjoy the
display and the fact that extensive use of the keyboard still hasn't
caused damage.
