Here's a solution...
You can make (semi) permanent changes in the /proc pseudo filesystem - take
a look at /etc/sysctl.conf - changes made in here are for kernel tuning and
are actioned at boot time.
This is where I make the changes for Oracle .
(I'm sure you can work it out, but if you need a bit more info I've got a
doc on it somewhere)
