The value is set exactly as you say. The one (slightly) tricky bit is that
where there are sub pseudo directories (is this English?) - these are are
indicated with dot so.. (broadly speaking)
tunableroot.foo.bar = 12345
is equivalent to /proc/tunableroot/foo/bar being set to 12345
