I suppose he's looking for something like bw_accounting
(http://www.bwacct.org, example: http://linespeed.net/stats). But
there are tons of such tools out there. Search freshmeat and you will
be busy for the rest of the day looking at all those tools (hint: mrtg
is one of the most sophisticated tools in that area which can do much
more than only that).
