Go to a console.
Start pine.
use h to find an html message.
Reply to it.
Most of the message is way off the console screen.
Either follow the cursor over to try to read what was written, delete the
message or ask the OP to post with wrapped lines.
Here's where it gets bad:
Go to the console.
Run mail.
Try to read the html and unwrapped lines garbage.
Problem is that people don't know to do this, and a lot of the guru's (I
mean *_real_* guru's, of which I am not one) work on the console
exclusively. So some noob asking how to run samba might get a lot of
answers from other non-guru users, but when one runs into a real problem,
maybe something like disc io or bad superblock errors after a hard
shutdown/reboot, one really appreciates guru advice. One cannot get that
advice if the guru cannot read one's mail.
So yeah, I could just accept a bunch of dumbed down email from all kinds
of guis in whatever format they want to send it, or I could inform them
that there are protocols and if we work within those parameters then we
are better prepared to run a real OS and handle events and incidents when
they arise.
Hope this clarifies things a bit.
