No Panels..

When Starting X and using Gnome as the Desktop Environment, the Panel does not appear anymore.... When I used in the past days it was there but with the last session i made, the panels do not appear... why is this? i'm logging in as root... and there is no error messages in /var/log/messages relating to this...
