very green

I'm very new to the linux world.  I installed red hat
and want to change my gui.  i installed the default
GNOME and KDE.  the machine is older and these are
killing my system resources.  I read about a light
weight interface, xfce.  is there a better one(keep in
mind my limited knowledge of linux)?  also i
downloaded the xfce .rpm file.  NOW WHAT?
