Dear Helpful Linux Friends,
I am once again stymied having just installed the
latest version of RedHat. I went through hades last
time (7.2) getting an IP address assigned to my
computer from my D-Link DI-701 Residential Gateway.
That time it turned out needing to use a different
version of the driver for my NIC (tulip_old instead of
the one the O/S chose - tulip).
This time, neither version of the tulip driver will
work.
I got so frustrated, I changed NIC's to a 3com 3c595.
This is not working either.
Doing an ifconfig -a shows the card, but without an IP
address assigned.
Doing a dhclient shows that requests are being sent
out, but the computer is not acknowledging the offers.
Networking on Linux should not be so difficult.
--sigh--
If I assign a static IP to the card, I can ping my
gateway, so I know that both the card and the gateway
are connected.
What is the newest secret regarding DHCP and RH 8.0
and network set-up files?
Somebody with the magic mojo help me out please.
