Tripwire: Fatal Exception

Every time I run

   # tripwire --check

I get

   Parsing policy file: /etc/tripwire/twpol.txt
   *** Fatal exception: 9exception
   *** Exiting...

It used to run...  I thought at first it was due to an upgrade to the
errata 2.4.18-17.7.x kernel, but it occurs even if I boot with the
previous kernel.

Any ideas? Google is silent, except for one person who replaced his
database to fix a similar problem. I now only replaced my database, but
I also installed the latest version (2.3-37) of Tripwire from
tripwire.org.
