RE: strange network problems



1. A P2-350 is certainly powerful enough to saturate a 10 mbps cable modem link. You are
probably running out of TCP/IP buffers as a result. Esp since you are uploading to someone else.

2. I dont know the kernel tweak parameters, perhaps others can suggest the right ones,
but things I would try -

Increase number of IO buffers available for network connections. Your Local firewall FTP program is
probably exhausting the pool and TCP/IP buffers dont get released immediately after use, have to wait
for TTL's to expire.

Find a way to decrease your local priority overall (NICE the process) to allow more cpu cycles and resources to external pc's.

try to limit the percentage of the IP IO buffer pool available to each process.
