Switching to grub is ok but your erro messages seem to indicate that your
initrd (ram disk) in the /boot directory is misconfigured. Also under
lilo you should use the lba32 option. I don't know what the needs to be
done that is equivalent. The message that the boot partition might not
work correctly has to do with a limitation in native BIOS to not be able
to boot beyond cylinder 1024 which you need to do. lba32 takes care of
that,
Do a man mkinitrd to see how that is done.
