Most CD drives don't require any special drivers,... are you sure yours
does?

for CD burning (CDR, CDRW) again the same applies, mostly. If it's a 
SCSI drive you should be able to just plug it in and run the burning
tool of your choice. There's Xcdroast, GnomeToaster, and probably
a dozen more. If it's an ATAPI drive, you'll need to set up your
system to use "scsi emulation" for that drive. If you're booting with
GRUB, just add: "hdc=ide-scsi" to the end of the appropriate "kernel"
entry in /etc/grub.conf, and reboot. You should be all set then.
